Water has been on my mind recently. We're in a bit of a drought, and I've been contemplating how MUCH of a drought, where our reserves are, whether it's my civic duty to suggest we let our little patch of lawn die this summer, etc.
I am not yet done thinking about water. I have dug up some interesting things about water. Lillian and I have some interesting plans about water-related projects.
But in the middle of mucking about in day-to-day details like average rainfalls and weather forecasts, I stumbled across sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor's work. His underwater sculpture Silent Evolution is the exact opposite of what I had been looking up. A complete immersion in an unending abundance of life and water. Emotions instead of statistics. Beautiful images instead of functional charts. It was an otherwordly shock, a fluke of Googling. It completely made my day.
Remember the crew of Davy Jones' ship in Pirates of the Caribbean? Check out the real thing at deCaires Taylor's site www.underwatersculpture.com. (Don't miss the details of the living inhabitants under the "environment" menu.)
